Tricycle News: Hot on Three Wheels

Summer is officially here, and if you live in San Francisco like we do, you may need some heating up. Check out the INCREDIBLY HOT new video from Stripmall Architecture for the B-side track ‘Dusk Drinks’.

Disclaimer: This video has sexual content and nudity, so don’t watch it at work.

In other Tricycle news, we are gearing up for three summer releases.

The Bay Area music scene is alive with new artists and an evolving sound. “Friends of Tricycle Records Compilation Vol. II” is our way of sharing new music from the local scene. This compilation will feature new artists and special tracks from artists you already know like Hot Toddies, The Union Trade, Rich Girls, Loquat, Fake Your Own Death, 8th Grader and more. To submit music for our compilation, send a link to stream your song to info@tricycle-records.com. All artists must be Bay Area based.

‘Everyday Including’ by The Union Trade, has been one of our top sellers and August 1st we will be offering it on beautiful vinyl. For fans of Shoegaze and Postrock, this album is a must have.

Lastly, we are pleased to announce Luisa Black of The Blacks is back with her new project Rich Girls. This is what Luisa had to say about her garage-y torch songs: “I moped around for two years after The Blacks broke up and refused to listen to or play any music. Then I said screw it and started Rich Girls. It’s just me so no one can quit the band.” But, more on this later in the summer–because the Stripmall Architecture video is about all the hot this newsletter can handle.

The Frail “Lasers Over Lovers” Out Now

Tricycle Records is thrilled to celebrate our 20th record release with The Frail, ‘Lasers Over Lovers’ EP, out today and available on iTunes and through the Tricycle Records Store.

About the Release

Over the past four years, velvet-throated vocalist Daniel Lannon and hyper-prolific producer Kevin Durr have pushed the group from a Craigslist collaboration to a stage-shattering electro-pop act worthy of national acclaim. Pop-indie hybrids, the group’s electro-tinged cuts now toe the line between falsetto homage to Michael Jackson and the hyper-literate electro experimentation of DFA acts like LCD Soundsystem.

In preparation for the March release of their new EP, Lasers Over Lovers, on Tricycle Records, the group has explored everything from acoustic laments to floor-shaking electo anthems, emerging with a slate of songs charged with energy and complex, deep-seeded emotion. The recent addition of guitarist Rob Pera and bassist Izzy Chavarin offers yet another layer of depth, cementing the group’s shift from simple, party rousing dance tunes to profound pop steeped in indie intelligence.

The Buzz

“Normally when we mention Tricycle Records, we’re talking about Geographer, but with The Frail‘s hard-to-miss electro-beats and homely, outpouring vocals, we’re ready to add another group to the discussion.” – Music Under Fire

“A sound that will appeal to fans of fellow locals Sugar & Gold, the Limousines, and Every Move a Picture” – SF Weekly

“The Frail are an excellent electro pop act. They have a bit of similarity to Xiu Xiu, without the extreme broken heartedness. It’s as if Xiu Xiu were a dancier, uptempo act.” -SF Gate

The Union Trade New EP Out Now

Tricycle Records proudly announces the release of The Union Trade “Why We Need Night”, out today and available on iTunes, Amazon and through our very own Tricycle Records Store.

About the Release

“Why We Need Night”, the third release on Tricycle from the San Francisco based group The Union Trade, follows their debut EP “Now The Swell” (2007) and 2008 full length, “Everyday Including”, whose lush, cinematic post-rock sound earned the band admiration from  fans around the world. The success of “Everyday Including” was highlighted by The Union Trade’s performances at the 2008 NoisePop Festival, the 2008 and 2009 Bay Area Takeover parties at SXSW, as well as a slew of shows and an official SXSW showcase in 2009. The band has also received positive press and reviews in publications such as The Bay Bridged, West Coast Performer, The Owl Mag, San Francisco Bay Guardian, Heave Media, Just Press Play and Sound+Vision Magazine etc… Since its release, “Everyday Including” has earned heavy rotation from outlets such as SOMA FM’s IndiePop Rocks, BAGle Radio, Insomnia Radio, LastFM and Pandora.

“Why We Need Night”, written and recorded in the summer and fall of 2010, displays both the band’s evolving sound and their continued promise as it strips away some of the epic layers of their last release while adding a wider array of electronic and analogue elements.
