Geographer “Animal Shapes”, out today

Tricycle Records proudly announces the release of Geographer ‘Animal Shapes’, out today and available on iTunes, Amazon and through Tricycle Records.

In 2009, Spin Magazine voted Geographer one of “Three Undiscovered Bands You Need to Hear Now”.  With the successful release of ‘Kites’ 7″ and the new ‘Animal Shapes’ EP, the band is already beginning to make an indelible mark on the ears of music fans worldwide.

‘Animal Shapes’ follows up ‘Kites’, building on the synth-driven aesthetic of the single. Flirting with darker, more esoteric underpinnings, this EP merges Geographer’s aptitude for crafting beautiful, haunting melodies with their polyrhythmic energy, marking an evolution of their distinct sound.

The Buzz

“At this very moment ‘Kites’ is set to repeat. It starts like the soundtrack to Nintendo’s “Kid Icarus” (remember that game?) playful electronic blips and beeps guide vocalist Mike Deni as he delicately jumps through a lullaby world before encountering a thunderstorm of drums and synthesizers. You’ll want to play this one over and over.” –Jason Jergens, Owl Mag / 7X7

“Tailor-made for your own personal late-night dance party.” –Spin Magazine

“Layers of bubbling synths and winding guitars and cellos, and Mike Deni’s haunting vocals ride above the electro-acoustic fracas wonderfully. Simply stunning.” –KQED Mix Tape

“The different synths added to the album do not change the overall sound of the band, as there is still the underlying lovable full-band feeling as we’ve heard before and not a ‘one-man and his synth’ style to it all. Not much has changed overall, but with these bit-sized alterations, the transition from old to new is quite enjoyable.” –Music Under Fire

“Deni’s mellow and soothing voice is a perfect compliment to their giddy electronics.” –Green Show Lace

“A perfect orchestration of vintage and modern sounds.”Earcandy New York Podcast Episode 58

The Northern Key Out Today!

[wpsc_products product_id=’26’]

The Northern Key (self titled) LP is out today and availabe on iTunes, Amazon and through the Tricycle Records store. Singer / songwriter Andrew Galluccio is hardly a new member of Tricycle Records; as the bass player for The Red Verse, he has been part of the Tricycle family for years. We are excited to now release this collection of his songs, reminiscent of Mark Kozelek and Elliott Smith that truly capture the spirit of indie folk.

As The Northern Key, Andrew Galluccio unlocks a familiar world of folk music for the next generation of listeners. Galluccio’s gentle guitar and haunting harmonies melt pretension with pure expression; his tender voice thawing even the coolest cynic. This world is our companion, our comfort, and the perfect complement to any reality.

‘The Northern Key’ came alive at Different Fur Studios in San Francisco with Chris Chu (The Morning Benders) recording and mixing, and local musician Jen Grady contributing vocals and cello — in just 24 hours. Such spontaneity allowed years of dreaming to crystallize into a well-crafted — but not overworked — work of art.

Happy New Year and Silver Swans Release

We are thrilled to announce our first release of 2010, the much anticipated debut LP by Silver Swans. ‘Realize The Ghost’ is out today and available digitally through iTunes and Amazon.

The electro dream-pop project captures the eerie dramatics of The Knife and the syrupy darkness of Ladytron to build a dynamic, exultant sound all their own. Silver Swans take their name from a group of super-villains in the Wonder Woman comics that possess the vocal ability to create a destructive ‘swan song’. The musical counterpart Silver Swans, however, are far from the evil and destruction of their namesake.  What began in 2007 as a dancy electronic track floating between producer Jon Waters and musician/vocalist Ann Yu, soon flourished into a full length record. Two years in the making, the single, Realize The Ghost made its debut on Tricycle Records, and today we take great pleasure in releasing it as a full-length record.

The Buzz

Silver Swans were recently selected #3 on “LIVE 105’s TOP 10 NEW BAY AREA BANDS YOU SHOULD KNOW” with additional radio play on Future Sounds “Hot 5” by Larry Little and Radio Soundcheck with Aaron Axelson.
“What Blaqk Audio is to AFI, Silver Swans are to SF faves LoveLikeFire.Silver Swans are a fantastic new local synth/dance side-project of Ann Yu, lead singer of LoveLikeFire, and its an incredible piece of haunting, hypotonic and dreamy electronic pop. (for fans of The Knife, LADYTRON and La Roux).”
–Aaron Axelsen, Live105 Soundcheck

“Everyone has a different side, especially musicians, and it’s always great to hear that. We all know Ann Yu as the vocalist for LoveLikeFire and her unique ability to create dramatic and memorable songs, but in her side project Silver Swans (with Jon Waters), she shows her keen sense of anchoring dance floor fillers with beautifully swirling hollow vocals and intricate electro instrumentals that lift you into a dream state…a constant, yet enjoyable struggle between vocals and electronics.”
– Stranded in Stereo

“The frontrunner for Bay Area bands to watch in 2010”
– The Owl Mag

Release Show

Please join us in celebrating the Silver Swans record release at Cafe DuNord in San Francisco on Thursday, January 28th with live performances by Silver Swans, The Frail, Jonesin and guest DJ Mario Muse. Advance tickets can be purchased at www.cafedunord.com.
