ABOUT RICH GIRLS
Rich Girls started as the solo project of Luisa Black (The Blacks) during a lonely year in London. After the break-up of her SF/NY-based garage trio, Black decamped to England looking for a new start. She started work on a series of dark pop demos, writing and recording the full band instrumentation herself. Black called the project Rich Girls, an attempt to disguise the fact that it was a lonely solo venture. “I had this dream version of a band in my head but the reality was just me in a bedroom writing songs on Garageband.” The result was The One I Want, a pop confessional of love and addiction released on Tricycle Records in 2013. With show offers suddenly coming in, Black returned to California and assembled a band by text message overnight.
Rich Girls combines the polish of British art rock with the primitive energy of American garage. The live band debuted at Noise Pop 2014 and were quickly tapped as a band to watch. A follow-up EP, FIVER, cemented the Rich Girls high/low sound and was released in 2014 with a video for the single ‘Worse’. The band has since found a small following in unexpected outposts across the UK and Europe. Love is the Dealer was released in September 2016 with a dance video for the single “Loaded.” Rich Girls is based in NYC and SF.
